EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy is a breakthrough therapy for treating anxiety, depression, trauma, and chronic pain.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an empirically validated psychotherapy approach to treat a number of psychological trauma and other negative life experiences.

  • In EMDR therapy, clinicians help individuals activate their own natural healing process.

  • The Adaptive Information Processing model suggests that EMDR therapy facilitates the accessing and processing of adverse life experiences to bring an adaptive resolution, resulting in reducing the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an extensively researched, integrative psychotherapy proven effective for trauma treatment. By directly affecting how the brain processes information, EMDR helps people see traumatic memories in new, less distressing ways.

  • EMDR therapy is being employed to alleviate symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, Everyday Stress, Panic Attacks, OCD, Phobias, and PTSD.

  • One of the benefits of EMDR is that you don’t necessarily have to talk about painful memories, making the therapy particularly inviting for those who have trouble verbalizing their experiences or for whom those experiences remain too painful to talk about. Rather, using EMDR for anxiety can be a largely internal process during which you are compassionately and gently guided out of a place of anxiety toward one of safety and inner tranquility. This process can allow you to access parts of yourself that traditional talk therapy may not be able to reach.

EMDR Intensive

EMDR INTENSIVES

Sometimes the traditional model of weekly sessions just doesn’t work for your schedule and timeline. Fortunately, EMDR therapy is not limited to the traditional format. Intensive EMDR can be as effective as weekly therapy.

Intensive EMDR therapy typically involves longer length sessions (2 – 3 hours) over a shorter period of days or weeks.

Intensive EMDR therapy might be right for you if:

  • You want to change on a deeper level, and you’re not quite getting to the root of the issue.

  • You don't have the desire or availability to meet each week in traditional therapy.

  • You don’t want to wait to feel better. You’re ready to get to do the work and you don’t want to spend months in the traditional weekly model before you can move on.

EMDR INTENSIVE INCLUDES:

  • One pre-consultation interview to assess for candidacy, gain insight, and identify obstacles. We will also target unpleasant beliefs, body sensations, emotions, or images from which you are seeking relief.

  • Personalized treatment workbook, which allows you to work on your treatment goals before, during, and after our EMDR Intensive sessions.

  • A customized treatment program that targets you specific treatment goals.  Typically for 2 to 3 hours each appointment.

  • One post-treatment session to assess and support session adaptation and integration of positive changes.

ADJUNCT EMDR

Adjunct EMDR therapy does not replace or interrupt the primary therapy. Adjunct EMDR therapy is typically conducted on an Intensive basis or in a short series of weekly sessions in order to yield results as quickly as possible.

Adjunct EMDR therapy might be right for you if:

  • You and your primary therapist are in agreement that there is a clearly-defined stuck point and that an added intervention could help to accelerate your progress.

  • You and your primary therapist are interested in supplementing your current talk therapy with an innovative intervention.

  • Your clinical needs are appropriate for a brief supplemental intervention or, for more complex needs, can be addressed in an Intensive format.

TREATMENT FREQUENCY

Insurance Sessions

We offer weekly 45-50 minute sessions. This is the most common choice when using insurance.

EMDR Intensives

The formal EMDR protocol is based on 90 minutes and is demonstrated to be effective with this length of time. A standard 45-minute session can be billed to insurance, and the remaining minutes are billed as self-pay.

EMDR Retreats

To maximize both your time and the healing benefits experienced from therapy, extending the traditional 50-min session allows us more time to go deeper into the EMDR process and utilize momentum to maximize healing in an intentional way.

EMDR Extended Intensives and Retreats

We have several extended intensive and healing retreats.

  • Weekend day healing retreats, including horsemanship, yoga, reiki, and EMDR to relax and restore.

  • 3-hour EMDR Intensives, including biomat restorative session, gently movement and breathwork

Studies relating to the number of sessions required have shown:

  • 84-90% of single-trauma victims no longer have PTSD after only 3 sessions (lasting 90 minutes each)

  • 100% of the single-trauma victims and 77% of multiple trauma victims no longer were diagnosed with PTSD after only 6 sessions (lasting 50 minutes each)

  • 77% of combat veterans were free of PTSD in 12 sessions
